Rounds of Storms Batter Metro Atlanta

ATLANTA -- Rounds of severe weather struck all over metro Atlanta Wednesday, bringing the evening rush hour to a crawl, dropping trees on homes and yards in northern suburbs, and damaging a city hall.

Morning tornado warnings brought heavy rains over Carroll County, Douglas County, and south Fulton County. A tractor trailer jackknifed at I-285, Rains sept into the Whitesburg city hall, soaking the floors and doing minor damage. Sheets of water poured down the walls, leaving an inch of water on the floors and soaking computers.

But some residents complained the nearby storm siren didn't go off, despite being under tornado warning much of the morning.

"They test it periodically and I've heard it when they test it," one woman said. "It's extremely loud when they test it, and I never heard it go off."

All seemed clear by the noon hour. But then without warning, the tornado warnings returned in the afternoon, lasting into the evening.
