ATLANTA -- The latest edition of the USA Today Metro Atlanta Baseball Poll is here, just in time for the region playoffs. There are lots of changes in the Top 10 this week as we gear up for the state tournament.

The Gainesville Red Elephants are riding high in the top spot this week with Milton second. Loganville, Blessed Trinity, and McEachern complete the Top 5.

ATLANTA -- The USA Today Metro Atlanta Super 25 Boys Lacrosse Poll is ready for inspection. As the post season gets closer, the name at the top remains the same.

The Milton Eagles are still soaring high above this week's countdown. Centenniel is next, with Lassiter, Decatur, and Northview completing the Top 5.

U.S. News & World Report names Sequoyah High to 2013 "Best High Schools"

CANTON, Ga. -- In a list published by U.S. News & World Report, Sequoyah High School was among the 2013 "Best High Schools" in the country.

As reported by Barbara Jacoby of the Cherokee County School District, Sequoyah is ranked eighteenth in Georgia and No. 1,033 in the United States. Principal Elliot Berman's Chiefs won a National Silver Medal.

"Honors like this one are a testament to the dedication at every level of Sequoyah High School - students, teachers, administrators, parents, volunteers, local businesses, and supports our belief that it takes the entire community working together to build successful schools," Superintendent Dr. Frank Petruzielo said.

Ex-PTA treasurer accused of stealing from 2 schools

CANTON, Ga. -- A former PTA treasurer has been charged with stealing money from two Cherokee County schools.

Kim Turman was arrested Monday by detectives with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's Lt. Jay Baker said Turman, 40, is accused of taking more than $12,000 from Indian Knoll Elementary School's PTA and nearly $5,900 from the Sequoyah High School Girls Soccer Booster Club, when she was the treasurer for both organizations.

She has been charged with two counts of felony theft and has since been released from the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on $52,000 bond.

Baker said both Georgia PTA and the soccer booster club are cooperating with the sheriff's office in their investigation.

City of Woodstock to hold LifeSouth Blood Drive

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- The City of Woodstock is holding the LifeSOuth Blood Drive on Wednesday at the Woodstock City Annex.

The drive will run from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Walk-Ins are welcome. All donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and have a valid form of identification. 

Before donating blood, it is important to eat iron-rich foods and drink plenty of non-caffein beverages.
