Eat Like a Pig at the Cherokee Pignic

CANTON, GA -- The Cherokee Pignic, Cherokee County's most anticipated fall festival, is about to cook up some good food and good fun at Heritage Park (250 Riverstone Parkway, Canton, 30114).

The celebration begins on Friday, Oct. 15 with a stage full of exciting performances, a Halloween costume contest for kids and, of course, plenty of food. Children ages 10 and under will be admitted free on Friday if they come in costume.

The highlight of the event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 16: the Kansas City Barbeque Society-sanctioned BBQ Cook-off. Professional teams and amateur "backyard" burners are invited to compete for prestige, prize money and bragging rights at winning the hearts of a whole park full of barbeque lovers. KCBS professionals will be on hand to give demonstrations and judge the cook-off. Attendees can taste the competitors' fare for $5 at the Lick Your Lips BBQ Tasting Tent.

Other Pignic events include an antique tractor display, a cake walk, games, live music and craft demonstrations.

The Cherokee Pignic will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Friday and from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is $5 per day or $8 for both days; children ages three and under are admitted free.

A portion of the festival's proceeds will benefit the Anna Crawford Children's Center.
