Two Cherokee County Residents Arrested for Obstructing Highway

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA -- Recently, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office received several reports of unknown persons who were obstructing Highway 140 near Waleska.

The obstructions consisted of tree limbs, rocks, tires, glass, nails and stolen road signs. The impediment of the roadway occurred over several months and caused severe damage to three vehicles.

On Sept. 22, Cherokee County Sheriff's Office deputies began nighttime surveillance of the roadway. During the surveillance, they witnessed 17-year-old Brandon Thomas Alford and a juvenile walk into the intersection of Highway 140 and Garland Mountain Road. Deputies interviewed the subjects and then arrested them in connection with an incident that occurred the previous night, Sept. 21.

Alford was charged with reckless conduct, terroristic acts, criminal damage to property and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was booked in the Cherokee County Jail on $13,240 bond.

The juvenile was charged with reckless conduct, terroristic acts, criminal damage to property and unruly child. The Department of Juvenile Justice was notified, and the child was released to his parents.

The Criminal Investigation Division is currently reviewing prior incident reports in connection with this case. The case remains open.
