Veterans Ceremony, Wreath Laying at Canton Cemetery

CANTON, GA -- Every year, a campaign known as Wreaths Across America holds a holiday wreath-laying ceremony to honor and remember the nation's veterans.

The 2010 Georgia ceremony will take place at the Georgia National Cemetery (2025 Mt. Carmel Church Lane, Canton, 30114) on Saturday, Dec. 11. Wreath placements will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a ceremony at noon. The best way to get into the cemetery is from the entrance south of Knox Bridge/Highway 20.

The Civil Air Patrol, veterans service organizations and local citizens are coordinating the event to honor members of each branch of the military, the Merchant Marine, prisoners of war and those who are missing in action.

Wreaths Across America has been sponsored by the Worcester Wreath Company since 2006. The company has laid wreaths at 131 national and veterans cemeteries; for the past 19 years, Worcester Wreath Co. has also donated wreaths for gravesites at Arlington National Cemetery.

For more information on the Canton ceremony, call Georgia National Cemetery director Margaret Helgerson at 770-479-9300.
