CANTON, Ga. -- Avery Elementary School in Canton recently celebrated Fine Arts Week in recognition of the importance of art and music in schools.

Throughout the week, students were treated to performances from "That Puppet Guy" Lee Bryan, Flash of Brass Southern Gospel group and the Avery Elementary School Chorus.

In addition, Community Canvas Artist Karen Mervis spent the week working with each Avery homeroom to create a huge canvas painting to be hung in the school's media center.

Fine Arts Week culminated with a Fine Arts Night in which various talented artists from throughout the Avery community displayed and demonstrated their talents for all to see. Paintings hung in the school hallways and the Avery Elementary School Grade Four and Grade Five Honor Chorus gave a special performance.

Art teacher Kay Martin even created a gallery displaying one piece of artwork from each student in the school. Parents and community members were invited to take a tour and meet the artists in person.
