CANTON, Ga. -- The Cherokee High School Mixed Chorus has been invited to perform at Lincoln Center next year.

The Canton high school's students will take part in a concert called The Music of Eric Whitacre on Mar. 30, 2014. They will join other choirs from across the country to form one big chorus called the Distinguished Concert Singers International.

Dr. Jonathan Griffith, artistic director and principal conductor for Distinguished Concerts International New York City, said Cherokee High received the invitation because of the quality of its audition tape and the musicianship of its singers.

"It is quite an honor just to be invited to perform in New York," Griffith said in a statement. "These wonderful musicians not only represent a high quality of music and education, but they also become ambassadors for the entire community. This is an event of extreme pride for everybody and deserving of the community's recognition and support."
