CANTON, Ga. -- Members of Sequoyah High's DECA program recently won the right to compete at the international level.

The DECA State Career Development Conference was held Friday, Feb. 25 and Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Marriott Marquis in downtown Atlanta.

Under the direction of DECA advisor Beth Carey, nine Sequoyah High marketing students competed for their school and county.

The top scorers were:

* Hannah Kidd
* Matt Merendino
* Ashley Stull

They may go on to compete during the International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida at the end of April.

DECA's industry-validated competitive events are aligned with National Curriculum Standards in marketing, business management and administration, finance, and hospitality and tourism.

Competition begins at the local level and advances to regional, state and international events. Students may compete in several types of events, including written, interviews, role-plays, case studies, and individual and team presentations.
