CANTON, Ga. -- A Canton man was arrested on Mother's Day and charged with interfering with his estranged girlfriend's custody of their daughter.
The girlfriend, Alma Antonio, told Canton Police that Raul Baltazar requested a visit with the child, saying that he was about to be deported from the United States.
When Antonio took the child to meet with Baltazar, the suspect told her that he would harm her other child, who does not live in the U.S., if he did not get an unsupervised visit with his daughter, according to Canton Police spokesperson Stacy Bailey.
Antonio told police she believed Baltazar's threat and allowed him to take their daughter for "a couple of hours." When Baltazar had not returned the girl 12 hours after taking her, Antonio called police.
Investigators were able to track Baltazar and the child to a home owned by the suspect's cousin, Bailey said.
Baltazar was taken into custody and the child was reunited with Antonio.
