Creekview HS teacher arrested for sexually assaulting student | Crime
CANTON, Ga. -- A drama and English teacher at Creekview High School in Cherokee County has been arrested on charges of having a sexual relationship with a student.
Matthew Tamanini, 31, was taken into custody Wednesday.
Cherokee County Sheriff's Lt. Jay Baker said investigators learned Tamanini had a four-month relationship with a 16-year-old Creekview student. Deputies believe Tamanini and the student had at least two sexual encounters on the school's campus.
The suspect has taught at Creekview since May 2007. He is now being held without bond in the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on two charges of sexual assault.
Cherokee County School District spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby said Tamanini has been "reassigned to a non-school work site" because of the investigation.
"The principal of Creekview HS was made aware of the allegations on Tuesday, and the Cherokee County School District Police Department was alerted," Jacoby said in a statement. "The Superintendent immediately authorized an internal investigation on Tuesday; this action authorized the CCSD Police to contact the Sheriff's Office, which began a criminal investigation this morning."
"CCSD's standard operating procedure relative to continued employment pending the outcome of an investigation will apply," Jacoby added.
Jacoby also said that a letter explaining the situation will be sent home Wednesday with Creekview students.
