Suspicious man chases girls during scavenger hunt

CANTON, Ga. -- Cherokee County Sheriff's officials are working to find a man accused of chasing three young girls while they were on a scavenger hunt at a birthday party.

The girls were walking down Parc Drive in Canton for the scavenger hunt on Mar. 2. One of them, a 10 year old, told police that a man got out of a car and began to chase them.

The girls ran into the nearby woods and back to the house where the party was taking place. The homeowner called 911, but investigators were not able to find the suspect, according to Cherokee Sheriff's Lt. Jay Baker.

The suspect is described as a white man in his late 20s or early 30s, with dark hair. He was driving a small four-door silver passenger car, possibly an Audi, Jetta or Honda, with some scratches and small dents, and dark tinted windows. The last three numbers of the tag may be 697.

Detectives are now comparing the girls' description of the suspect to those of sex offenders who live nearby, Baker said.

Anyone who can identify the suspect or has information about the case is asked to call 911.
