CANTON, Ga. -- The students at Clayton Elementary School in Canton were thrilled to learn that children's author Carmen Agra Deedy will visit their school on Monday, May 16.
Born in Havana, Cuba, Deedy came to the United States as a refugee in 1964 and grew up in Decatur, where she still lives.
She has been writing for children for over two decades. Her most popular book, "The Library Dragon," received various state book award and has sold nearly half a million copies.
In 2003, "The Library Dragon" was chosen to represent Georgia at the Library of Congress National Book Festival.
Deedy's most recent book, "14 Cows for America," is based on an astonishing gift that a Maasai village in Kenya gave to the United States shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks.
The book was released in Sept.
