WEEKEND EVENTS: Roswell Criterion, Spring Conference and Glover Park Concert Series

MARIETTA, Ga. – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

The Glover Park Concert Series kicks off the 2011 season on Friday, April 29 at 8 p.m. in and around the park in downtown Marietta. The Series will continue throughout the summer, with concerts scheduled for the last Friday night of each month through September with the exception of the April concert. Concerts start at 8:00 p.m. on the Marietta Square.

The Georgia Master Gardeners Association will be hosting a conference in Rome, this weekend.  Participants will be able to learn best Green Gardening Practices at the 2011 Spring Conference. Nationally known speakers will be in attendance along with vender selling one-of-a-kind plants, garden art and all sorts of gardening related products. Tickets to this conference are $75.

Atlanta, GA --  On April 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and numerous state and local law enforcement agencies will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.  You can bring your medications for disposal to numerous sites across the state and the metro Atlanta area.

NORTHERN METRO AREA – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

Today, the Yaarab Shrine kicks off their 69th Annual Circus and Carnival at the Jim R. Miller Park in Marietta. This circus is the world largest shrine circus. Food and rides will be open tonight; however, there will be no circus acts. Only $10 gets you unlimited rides on every ride at the fair.

Sprayberry High school will be hosting a Community Egg Drop on Saturday, April 23 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Eggs will be dropped from a helicopter and there will be many vendors, including face painting and pictures with the Easter Bunny.

Carmen Agra Deedy to visit Clayton Elementary

CANTON, Ga. -- The students at Clayton Elementary School in Canton were thrilled to learn that children's author Carmen Agra Deedy will visit their school on Monday, May 16.

Born in Havana, Cuba, Deedy came to the United States as a refugee in 1964 and grew up in Decatur, where she still lives.

She has been writing for children for over two decades. Her most popular book, "The Library Dragon," received various state book award and has sold nearly half a million copies.

In 2003, "The Library Dragon" was chosen to represent Georgia at the Library of Congress National Book Festival.

Deedy's most recent book, "14 Cows for America," is based on an astonishing gift that a Maasai village in Kenya gave to the United States shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks.

The book was released in Sept.

CANTON, Ga. -- Chattahoochee Technical College is getting ready to unveil its newest Metro Atlanta location.

The Canton campus (1645 Bluffs Parkway, 30114) will make its official debut on Thursday, Apr. 28.

The public is invited to come out from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. for food, tours and giveaways as CTC celebrates its recent unparalleled growth.
