Woodstock chiropractor raises hundreds for Rivera family

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- A Woodstock chiropractor raised $450 Thursday for the family of Jorelys Rivera, the seven-year-old Canton girl whose body was found Monday.

Dr. Brian G. Gregg declared Thursday, Dec. 8 "Remember Jorelys Day" at his practice, Gregg Chiropractic Center. He accepted $15 donations for the Jorelys Rivera Memorial Fund in exchange for treatment.

"We were all devastated by [Jorelys' death]," Gregg said. "I wanted to turn all of this emotion into something positive."

WEEKEND EVENTS: SEC Championship, Civil War and Tree Lighting

ATLANTA – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

A program called, Hope for the Holidays, will be held at the Art House in Buckhead. A hundred local artists will be displaying their creativity from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The event is being held to benefit a couple of local children’s charities in the area. This benefit will be donating funds to Jerusalem House, the Atlanta Mission, Chris Kids, the Children’s Restoration Network and Sheltering Arms. The Art House is located at 3193 Paces Ferry Place in Buckhead.

The McDaniel Farm in Duluth will be holding their fourth annual Civil War Holiday program from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The program takes a walk back to 1862 and tells participants how Union and Confederate soldiers marked Christmas during the Civil War. You can visit campsites, watch a drill or even make ornaments for soldiers’ trees.

After his retirement on Friday, Regis Philbin will be visiting the Book Festival at the Marcus Jewish Community Center on Sunday, November 20 to talk about his memoir “How I Got This Way”. Philbin is scheduled to arrive around 3:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Zaban Park facility in Dunwoody. Be sure to purchase tickets for this event soon, tickets are guaranteed to sell out; this event will conclude the 20th Edition of the MJCCA Book Festival.

Veterans eat for free at Applebee's

ATLANTA -- Applebee's expects to serve more than one million free meals to veterans and active duty military this Veterans Day.

This is the third year in a row that the Kansas City, Mo.-based chain restaurant has held its Thank You Movement to show appreciation for the brave men and women who serve our country.

And part of that movement includes allowing members of the military to eat for free on Friday, Nov. 11.

Active duty military members and veterans can receive their free food from 11 a.m. to midnight.

ASO to honor Metro Atlanta music teachers

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will hold an appreciation ceremony for more than 180 Atlanta-area music teachers Friday evening.

The teachers will be recognized at 7 p.m. by ASO president Stanley Romanstein. Afterward, the instructors will attend the evening's concert featuring the music of Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninov and Mussorgsky.

ASO cellist Joel Dallow will also receive a special award from Romanstein for his arts education advocacy work throughout Georgia.

Both the 8 p.m. concert and the preceding reception will take place at the Woodruff Arts Center, 1280 Peachtree Street NE, Midtown.
