Weekend construction to continue despite rain

(WXIA) -- Rain is in this weekend's forecast, but that won't stop Georgia Department of Transportation from working on scheduled road projects throughout the area.

GDOT District Construction Engineer Shun Pringle said the department expects more people than usual on the road, as school districts begin and end their spring breaks.

"Call 511 or look at a mapping website before you leave home," Pringle said in a statement. "Motorists, including spring breakers ... need to plan ahead to avoid delays."

The new flyover ramps on the Interstate 85/Georgia 400 Interchange project are open, but crews still need to perform a little last-minute work on them. Lanes will be closed in places.

From 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday, two right lanes of I-85 south from half a mile north of Clairmont Road to North Druid Hills Road will be closed as crews remove sign structures.

Overhead signs will also be removed on Ga. 400 south from Peachtree Road to Sidney Marcus Boulevard during the same 24-hour time period. One right lane will be closed.

Two right lanes of the northbound Downtown Connector will be closed for asphalt repairs between Central and Edgewood avenues Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

On I-285 north between Hollowell Parkway and Paces Ferry Road, one left lane will be closed overnight for sign replacement.

Work will continue on I-20 in Douglas County as well. Two left lanes will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Liberty Road and State Route 5.

Outside the Perimeter, rolling closures for street sweepers and other projects can be expected in several locations overnight.
