CANTON | 2 more arrested in beating of Ala. man | News
CANTON, Ga. -- Cherokee County Police say two additional arrests have been made in a recent case involving a man who was beaten and stuffed into the trunk of a car.
U.S. Marshals arrested 24-year-old Will Cortez Robinson and 22-year-old Robert Silva Jr., both of Atlanta, on Thursday.
The two suspects have been charged with battery, assault and kidnapping in the beating of Alabama resident Lyndon Baines Smith.
Smith was recovered from the trunk of 22-year-old Melvin Floyd's car earlier this month. The Cleburne County (Ala.) Sheriff's Office contacted the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office to say that Floyd had been pulled over while driving through the county.
The victim was taken to an Alabama hospital with multiple facial and rib fractures.
Alabama officials told Cherokee County investigators that Smith was most likely beaten at a house in Canton, according to Cherokee County Sheriff's spokesman Howard Baker. Detectives subsequently found evidence of the beating inside a house on Gold Mill Ridge in the Bridgemill subdivision.
Floyd was charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault and battery. He was released from the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on $88,800 bond on Mar. 17.
Robinson and Silva are currently in the Fulton County Jail with no bond awaiting transport to Cherokee County.
