ATLANTA -- A Cherokee County firefighter became a hero while on vacation in Florida over the weekend.
Saturday evening, while Joshua Ellis was enjoying dinner with his wife at a hotel restaurant in Destin, someone banged loudly on the windows asking desperately for help at the hotel's swimming pool.
Ellis ran to the pool, where an 8-year-old boy was at the bottom of the deep end. He dove in and pulled the boy out of the pool. The boy wasn't breathing when he was pulled out. Ellis immediately began administering CPR to him. After several attempts, the child had a faint pulse.
The boy was taken by ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast in West Destin, where he's now in stable condition.
