Authorities said the driver of the car had a number of cuts and scrapes, and a possible broken or dislocated hip. The driver was transported to Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, where he was listed in stable but critical condition.
The owner of the house, Gordon McDowell, says no one was home at the time of the accident but his two dogs. They were in the garage. The escaped without a scratch. One of the dogs, Dixie, ran away, frightened. As seen in the accompanying video, Dixie found her way home after about five hours.
The house has been cordoned off by firefighters due the instability of the structure of the building.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident.
A spokesman for the Sheriff's Office said Monday evening that there were no indications at the scene that alcohol or drugs were factors in the incident, and that there was no indication that the collision was intentional.
