Detention center inmate commits suicide | News
CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -- An inmate of the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center committed suicide on Tuesday inside his cell, according to officials.
Deputies found William Leroy Engle, 42, of Douglasville hanging in his cell, and pronounced him dead on the scene. No other inmates were in the cell when the hanging occured, according to the Cherokee Sheriff's Office. They said attempts to revive Engle were unsuccessful.
Engle had been held since June 17, 2012, when Georgia State Patrol arrested him for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Operating a Vehicle with Suspended License.
The Cherokee Sheriff's Office said Engle had other warrants in Forsyth and Cobb Counties.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will continue to investigate the death.
