Vulgar note, rope left on Canton apartment door

CANTON, Ga. – The Canton Police Department is investigating a vulgar note and piece of rope left on an apartment door. Police located four other residents of the same apartment complex who had the threatening notes taped to their door.

The notes were found on doors at the Lancaster Ridge Apartment complex on Hickory Knoll Drive early Friday. The rope was tied to a door knob where a 91 year old woman lives with her daughter.

"It shocked me," said Sarah Humphries. "We've been living here since 2008 and nothing like this has ever happened and it just scared me. Humphries lives with her mother Dolly Humphries, who is disabled. Humphries said she believes the rope was a noose.

"There's a whole lot of mean people in this world nowadays," she said. "I can tell you, because I see it on TV all the time."

Julilus Mays said his 8-year old daughter found a threatening note on his door. "When i saw it pretty much I thought it was just kids playing and then I found out the ladies (Humphries) next door got the same note, but they had a noose on their door," he said.

Mays said he was more concerned for the two women. "Them ladies don't deserve this," he said. "I mean they're the sweetest ladies in the whole apartment complex."

Authorities said none of the notes referenced age, sex or nationality of the apartment's residents.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Canton Police Department at 770-720-4883.
