Parents say principal parked in school exit during storm | News
CANTON, Ga. – Some Canton parents are upset after a principal allegedly parked her Jeep close to a school exit door during severe weather on Monday.
Parents said when they arrived at Free Home Elementary, a white Jeep believed to be the principal's was parked in front of door under a car port. The picture appears to show the Jeep to be so close that it doesn't look anyone could get in or out of the door.
The parents who sent us the picture didn't want to talk on camera because they didn't want any fallout to affect their children in the close-knit community.
Cherokee County Fire Department spokesperson Tim Cavender said his department talked to school officials about the matter.
"After we spoke to them, they indicated they were doing a little investigation and see what they could do to correct the problem, and we agreed to help them in any way that we could -- even sending some of our people there to speak to the person and the staff in general about the concerns that we have," Cavender said.
Cherokee County Schools spokesperson Carrie B. McGowan said in a statement, "The issue has been addressed with the principal, and we can assure parents it will not occur again."
School officials said the time stamp in the picture was after school was dismissed, but could not say how long the Jeep was parked in that spot before parents arrived.
