Cherokee County agents make 2 big drug arrests

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -- Investigators from several agencies worked together to arrest two women on drug-related charges in Cherokee County.

Katherine Silva, 25, was taken into custody June 3 after selling heroin to an undercover Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad (CMANS) agent. Silva was in possession of more than six grams of heroin, according to CMANS Commander Phil Price.

Agents began investigating Silva after receiving information that she was a source of heroin in southern Cherokee County. She has been charged with trafficking, one of Georgia's most serious drug charges, and is being held without bond in the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.

After searching Silva's Kennesaw apartment, CMANS worked with Atlanta Police to arrest two suspects who they believe supplied Silva with drugs. Erik Standley, 29, and Blayk Williams, 26, were taken into custody at a Crowne Plaza Atlanta hotel. Price said police seized more than a third of a pound of heroin and about $1,300 in cash during the arrests.

"Inter-agency cooperation was the key to wrapping up the various ends of SIlva's heroin operations in metro Atlanta," Price said in a statement.

The second arrest happened June 4, when 26-year-old Marcquita Tyshell Holder tried to sell 91 OxyContin pills to an undercover agent.

Price said Holder was bought to CMANS' attention a few weeks ago, when the parents of a man who died of a drug overdose in Cherokee County contacted agents. The parents provided information that allow CMNAS to set up a meeting with Holder.

Holder also brought two handguns and a stun gun to the meeting, Price said.

She is being held without bond in the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on charges of sale of a schedule II narcotic, firearm possession during a felony and selling drugs within 1,000 feet of a school.

CMNAS is made up of officials from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Cherokee County Marshals Office, GBI, Georgia State Patrol and the police departments for Ball Ground, Canton, Holly Springs and Woodstock.
