Canton man finishes cross-country run for Alzheimer's
News

CANTON, Ga. -- Jack Fussell of Canton achieved his lofty goal of running "across the land" to raise money for Alzheimer's Research.

Eight months after starting his trek in Savannah, the 62-year-old arrived last week in Monterey, California, where he waded into the Pacific Ocean on Monday.

He did it in memory of his father, who died 12 years ago.

Not long after that, Fussell faced his own health crisis and began a transformation.

He lost more than 100 pounds by running and climbing the stairs at Amicalola Falls State Park.

There were a lot of roadblocks during his cross-country adventure.

He faced down a pack of aggressive dogs, suffered through extreme heat and avoided the occasional a rattlesnake.

He raised national awareness and more than $26,000 for the Alzheimer's Association.
