Some voters to visit 2 precincts on Election Day | News
MCDONOUGH, Ga. -- Voters in at least six Metro Atlanta cities, including McDonough, Stockbridge, Locust Grove, Duluth, Canton and Woodstock, will have to cast ballots in two different locations on Election Day, November 8.
"This is kind of a nightmare for elections officials to get them to two locations," said Janet Shellnut, Director ofHenry County Elections and Registration. "It's not our choice. I would love to not have to do that."
Shellnut said the cities of Stockbridge, McDonough and Locust Grove want to keep their election sites separate.
That means voters will have to go to their city precinct to weigh in on Sunday Alcohol Sales and city council races, then make a separate trip to their county precinct to vote for or against the renewal of E-SPLOST, the penny sales tax for county schools.
Voters can avoid the extra trip and the confusion if they vote early this week.
"You're able to vote for the county ballot and the city ballot at the same time," Shellnut said.
Henry County will offer the following early voting locations from October 31 to November 4 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day:
Hampton Train Depot
17 East Main Street
Hampton, GA 30228
Locust Grove Recreation Center
10 Cleveland St
Locust Grove, GA 30248
Henry County Elections & Registration
345 Phillips Dr.
McDonough, GA 30253
Ted Strickland Community Center
130 Berry St.
Stockbridge, GA 30281
Voters in Duluth must visit Duluth City Hall to cast an early ballot in the municipal election. Absentee/Early Voting in person is available during regular City Hall business hours, Monday - Friday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm until November 4, 2011.
On Election Day, Tuesday November 8, the polls will also be open at this location from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
In the cities of Woodstock and Canton, early voting will run through November 4 from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Cherokee County Elections Office located at 400 East Main Street, Canton, Georgia 30114. All qualified County and Municipal voters within Cherokee County are welcome to cast their ballots.
