Several surface streets impacted by weekend roadwork

(WXIA) -- Interstate 20 will bear the brunt of this weekend's roadwork, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Drivers are asked to avoid nonessential travel on I-20, as road projects will require lane closures that will likely result in delays.

A number of surface streets will also be impacted by construction crews.

As always, all work is weather permitting. Get this weekend's forecast.

Cobb/Fulton counties: I-285
2 northbound lanes will be closed between Bolton and South Atlanta roads from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for concrete rehabilitation.

Coweta County: I-85
1 southbound lane will be closed at Sharpsburg-McCullum Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 12 p.m. Monday for barrier wall installation.

Weekend roadwork: More sign and bridge work

(WXIA) -- Once again, drivers in the Atlanta area are asked to avoid non-essential travel on Interstate 285 this weekend.

Georgia Department of Transportation road crews will work on several stretches of roads and highways throughout the area Friday night through Monday morning. Many of the projects will require lane closures, which could result in delays.

As always, all work is weather permitting. See this weekend's forecast.

Scheduled projects include:

Coweta County
1 southbound lane of I-85 will be closed at Sharpsburg-McCullum Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 12 p.m. Monday for barrier wall installation.

DeKalb County
2 northbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between Covington Highway and I-20 from 7:30 p.m. Saturday to 7:30 a.m. Sunday for sign structure work.

FLOYD COUNTY and CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -- Residents hit with snow in north Georgia began to dig their way out on Thursday.

While some parts of the metro Atlanta area saw little or no accumulation in Wednesday's storm, counties in the north end of the state were blanketed by several inches of snow.

Perhaps the hardest hit area in the metro Atlanta area was Floyd County. Its center -- Rome, Ga. -- saw up to six inches of snow fall, causing little lasting damage but leaving a beautiful pictures.

Man commits suicide after 5-hour SWAT standoff

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -- A Cherokee County man has died after shooting himself during a SWAT standoff.

The incident began at around 1:45 p.m. Sunday at a house on Trinity Hollow Drive in Canton.

Cherokee County Sheriff's Lt. Jay Baker said the suspect, 31-year-old Paul Limerick, got into an argument with his father and shot at him several times. The father managed to escape the house unharmed.

A SWAT team was called to the scene and tried to convince Limerick to leave the home. After about five hours of negotiations, Limerick shot himself in the head, according to Baker.

Limerick was taken to North Fulton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The GBI was called in to investigate the incident.

(WXIA) -- The Georgia Department of Transportation will continue to perform sign structure work on Interstate 285 this weekend.

Most of the projects will require lane closures, which could result in lengthy delays. Drivers are asked to avoid the Perimeter in impacted areas if possible.

All work is weather permitting.

Scheduled projects include:

Cobb County
1 lane of I-75 in each direction will be closed between Delk Road and South Marietta Parkway from 7:30 a.m. Saturday to 5:30 p.m. Sunday for sign structure work.

Coweta County
1 northbound lane of I-85 will be closed from 2 miles north of Bullsboro Drive from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly for striping.

DeKalb County
2 westbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between Northlake Parkway and Chamblee Tucker Road from 7:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for sign structure work.

2 northbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between Paces Ferry Road and Cobb Parkway from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for sign structure work.

Cobb/Fulton counties
3 westbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between New Northside Drive and I-75 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for sign structure work.

Cobb/Fulton counties
2 northbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between Bolton Road and South Cobb Drive from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for concrete rehabilitation.

Missing Canton woman found

Missing Canton woman found

Authorities in Cherokee County say a 29-year-old woman reported missing Monday night has been found.

According to Lt. Jay Baker of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Frances Denee Law, of Canton, had last seen around 7 p.m. Sunday leaving her home on Swan Lane.

Baker said Tuesday night that she was located in another county and was OK.
