Mail Service Improves for North Georgia

Mail Service Improves for North Georgia

ATLANTA -- The U.S. Postal Service reports that nearly 100% of North Georgia residents received their mail over the past several days.

This is in spite of some of the most challenging weather conditions to impact the region in over a decade.

"Thanks to the many hardworking and dedicated employees, and with some cooperation from the weather, we were able to make more than 99% of all deliveries in ZIP Codes 300, 301, 302, 303, 305 and 306 over the past several days," said Atlanta district manager Kate F. Wiley. "There are some isolated areas where ice has not melted sufficiently to make it safe for delivery employees, so we have not been able to reach everyone. However, those locations are very few, and that situation is improving each day."

Wiley says to help get delivery options back on track, Postal personnel are making deliveries throughout Metro Atlanta on Monday, Jan.

Missed School Days Must Be Made Up

Missed School Days Must Be Made Up

Update: The Cherokee County School District is allowed to cancel up to four days of classes for inclement weather without requiring them to be rescheduled. As a result, only two days need to be made up; they have been scheduled for Mar. 17 and 18. The February break will not be affected.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA -- Cherokee County students have now missed five days of school because of the winter weather.

Schools will also be closed on Monday, Jan. 17 for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

As a result, the Cherokee County School District has decided upon some make-up days for later in the year. Unless the state providers a waiver allowing the days not to be rescheduled, two previously announced furlough days -- Thursday, Mar. 17 and Friday, Mar.
