CANTON, Ga. -- Cherokee County Sheriff's officials recently busted a prescription forgery ring.
Members of the county's Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad began investigating five months ago when they were alerted of fraudulent prescriptions, according to sheriff's office Lt. Jay Baker.
Officials made 13 arrests in the bust. They said 66-year-old Kathryn Shoemaker, a licensed nurse practitioner, was the ringleader, as she had access to prescription information and documents. She has had her license revoked and is being investigated by the Secretary of State, Baker said.
