WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- River Ridge High School in Woodstock was pleased and proud to host this year's Cherokee County Special Olympics.
More than 300 student-athletes participated in the Games on May 1.
"These athletes are inspiring to everyone here today -- they love to compete and we all love to cheer them on," Cherokee County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Petruzielo said. "As a school district, we believe that every student should have access to academic and athletic challenges to help them grow in their knowledge and ability, and our special education students certainly rise up to those challenges and exceed them."
Petruzielo added that Cherokee County's special education students consistently exceed state averages on standardized tests and excel in athletic events like the Special Olympics.
