CANTON, Ga. -- Canton Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who robbed a Chevron convenience store on Easter Sunday morning.

The suspect, who appears to be a white man, first activated the burglary alarm at the Chevron on Mountain Vista Boulevard at around 2:15 a.m. Sunday. Investigators believe he did this to see how long it would take police to respond to the scene, according to Canton Police spokesperson Sgt. Stacy Bailey.

Police say the suspect broke the store's side window at around 3 a.m., stole two or three packs of Marlboro Lights cigarettes from behind the counter, and ran from the scene.

The man did not appear to escape in a car, leading police to believe that he lives nearby, Bailey said.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Canton Police at 770-720-4883 or the Cherokee County 911 Center at 678-493-4080.
